Two Arrested Over Monkey Meatballs

Indonesian police have arrested a couple who made meatballs from the flesh of protected monkeys, an animal conservation group said.

The pair poached dozens of rare Javan langurs, also known as silver-leaf monkeys, from Baluran National Park in the east of Java island, according to a statement released by Indonesia-based animal protection group ProFauna.

“Police found 30 kilograms (65 pounds) meat estimated to come from 20 – 25 individuals, two rifles and a live langur,” the statement said.

“The couple admitted that they had known what they did was against the law and they hunted the monkeys for their meat because beef and chicken were more expensive than the protected monkeys.”

Chestnut Gobbles Down 50 Meatballs To Win Top Spot

Joey Chestnut maintained his dominance in the sport of competitive eating — and expanded his palate — by winning the first-ever Martorano’s Masters Meatball Eating Championship in Las Vegas.

Chestnut gobbled 50 meatballs in 10 minutes at the Rio All Suite Hotel & Casino. The 6.25 pounds was a new world record and earned him the first-place prize of $1,500.

Pat “Deep Dish” Bertoletti finished in second place, just one meatball behind Chestnut.

Sonya Thomas, weighing in at 105 pounds, ate 42 meatballs to finish third.

The event was a Major League Eating-sanctioned competition.

Chestnut’s resume also includes hot dog, pizza and chicken wing contests.

Thats-a Big-a Meatball!

The bouncing mega-meatball record has landed in the East Coast.

Chef Matthew Mitnitsky cheers after his meatball weighed in, ...

Matthew Mitnitsky, owner of Nonni’s Italian Eatery in Concord, said that a 222.5-pound meatball was authenticated as the world’s largest after being weighed by state weights and measures officials.

A Guinness Book of World Records official confirmed the big meatball as a record breaker and presented Mitnitsky with a plaque.

The old record of 198.6 pounds was set just over a month ago after Los Angeles-based talk show host Jimmy Kimmel vowed to beat a record set in Mexico. That record — 109 pounds — was set in August.

Mitnitsky said he got involved “to bring the meatball back to the East Coast because that’s where it originated.”
