Check Out The Tiny Horse

A diminutive horse born in New Hampshire could lay claim to the world record for lightweight foal.

Three-day-old pinto stallion named Einstein born ...

The pinto stallion named Einstein weighed just 6 pounds and measured 14 inches tall when he was born Friday in Barnstead, N.H. Those proportions fit a human baby just about right but are downright tiny for horse, even a miniature breed like Einstein.

Dr. Rachel Wagner, Einstein’s co-owner, says the Guinness Book of Records lists the smallest newborn horse as weighing in at 9 pounds.

Breeders say that unlike the current record holder, Thumbelina, Einstein shows no signs of dwarfism. He’s just a tiny horse.

Turkish Singer Sets Blind Speed Record In Ferrari

Turkish pop-singer Metin Senturk became the world’s fastest unaccompanied blind driver and said he felt he had danced with death.

Senturk wept as he emerged from a Ferrari F430 at Urfa airport in eastern Turkey to learn from Guinness World Records officials his average speed of 292.89 kph broke the previous record of 284 kph, held by a British bank manager.

“I don’t think there are any words to describe this feeling. I am really happy. It was really hard, like a dance with death,” said Senturk, who has been blind since the age of three.

Following Senturk in a separate vehicle was former rally driver Volkan Isik, who guided the blind man by radio.

Pasadena Museum Is Home To World’s Largest Bunny Collection

It started 18 years ago with an endearment and a plush bunny.

Today, Steve Lubanski and Candace Frazee live in The Bunny Museum, where they have the world’s largest rabbit collection with more than 26,000 items. Guinness World Records dubbed them the largest in 1999 when there were only 8,437 pieces in the house.

Frazee counts and catalogs the collection and keeps track of visitors — hovering around 16,000.

The couple are surrounded by rabbits, from wallpaper to wind chimes, phones to faucets and sheets to screen savers. Thousands of items are in storage because there is no space left.

Erin Seeherman, 24, was visitor No. 15,976. She came from Philadelphia with pictures of her bunnies, Zeke and Nora, food for Frazee’s rabbits and plans to buy lots of souvenirs at the museum gift shop.

“I was hoping it would be trinket heaven,” she said.

Indian Military To Weaponize World’s Hottest Chili

The Indian military has a new weapon against terrorism: the world’s hottest chili.

After conducting tests, the military has decided to use the thumb-sized “bhut jolokia,” or “ghost chili,” to make tear gas-like hand grenades to immobilize suspects, defense officials said.

The bhut jolokia was accepted by Guinness World Records in 2007 as the world’s spiciest chili. It is grown and eaten in India’s northeast for its taste, as a cure for stomach troubles and a way to fight the crippling summer heat.

It has more than 1,000,000 Scoville units, the scientific measurement of a chili’s spiciness. Classic Tabasco sauce ranges from 2,500 to 5,000 Scoville units, while jalapeno peppers measure anywhere from 2,500 to 8,000.

“The chili grenade has been found fit for use after trials in Indian defense laboratories, a fact confirmed by scientists at the Defense Research and Development Organization,” Col. R. Kalia, a defense spokesman in the northeastern state of Assam, told The Associated Press.

Irish Pubs Face Hard Times

Ireland’s famous pubs and pints are reeling from their worst year yet, a report found — and the really bad news is it does not guarantee an end to drink-related social and health problems.

Against the backdrop of deep recession and unemployment, Ireland’s per capital alcohol consumption fell by 9.6 percent in 2009 and is now 21 percent below an all-time peak in 2001 when Ireland’s economy was booming.

“It was the worst year for our industry in living memory,” Kieran Tobin, chairman of the Drinks Industry Group of Ireland (DIGI), told a news conference in a central Dublin pub.

Pubs have been closing at the rate of around one a day, he said, and 15,000 jobs had been lost across the sector over the last 18 months.

Last year’s drinking decline follows a 7.7 percent decline in per capital consumption in 2008, while in volume terms consumption declined 8.9 percent in 2009 after a 5.9 percent drop in 2008, the report by Anthony Foley of Dublin City University Business School for DIGI, which represents the on-trade — pubs, hotels, restaurants — and off-license sector.

Arizona Great Dane Is Tallest Dog Ever

A 250-pound blue Great Dane from Arizona gives new meaning to the term “big dog.”

This photo released by Guinness World Records shows Giant George, ...

Guinness World Records says Giant George from Tucson is the tallest dog ever on record.

Guinness said that he stands 3 feet, 7 inches tall from paw to shoulder, which is three-quarters of an inch taller than his closest rival — Titan, a white Great Dane from San Diego.

The 4-year-old Titan took the title of world’s tallest dog in 2009 after Gibson, a Great Dane from Grass Valley, Calif., died of bone cancer.

Guinness officials say there were conflicting reports about Giant George’s height, so they sent a judge to verify it.

The 4-year-old is owned by David Nasser.

Nepal’s Shortest Man In Quest For Guinness Record

A man who is only 22 inches (56 centimeters) tall left his home country of Nepal on Sunday in a quest to be recognized as the world’s shortest man.

Khagendra Thapa Magar, 18, who stands at 22 inches (56 centimeters) ...

Khagendra Thapa Magar is traveling to Europe to campaign for the Guinness World Record title. He applied to London-based group for a place in the record book in October, soon after turning 18, but said he has not received any response.

Magar’s family initially filed a claim when he was 14, but it was rejected because he was not an adult and there was a chance he might grow.

They say doctors in Nepal have not been able to explain why Magar is so small.

“We are going to Italy to try to record his name in the Guinness Book of World Records,” his father, Rup Bahadur Thapa Magar, told reporters in Katmandu. They plan to appear on an Italian television show to talk about his bid for the title.

Once in Italy, Magar, his father and a supporter will decide on their next destination.

His supporters saw him off from the Nepalese capital on Sunday, offering flower bouquets and garlands.

The current record is held by He Pingping of China, who is 29 inches (73 centimeters) tall.

Weird And Wacky World Records Tumble Around The Globe

Manjit Singh, a 59-year-old security consultant from Leicester, England known as the “Ironman,” pulled a double-decker bus weighing more than eight metric tons over a distance of 21.2 meters with his hair.

Manjit Singh grimaces as he pulls a double decker London bus ...

The new record was set in central London to coincide with the fifth annual Guinness World Records Day, which organizers said prompted thousands of people around the world to set some bizarre benchmarks of their own.

For Singh, his latest achievement makes up for the disappointment of 2007, when he failed to break the record for the furthest distance to pull a double-decker bus with the ears.

“I will never be discouraged by defeat, because I know that success can be waiting around the next corner,” he said. “The only way to get there is to try again and stay positive.”

Also in London, 112 commuters put aside their English rush-hour reserve to set a record for the most people hugging for a minute, while Shaun Jones won the title for the fastest hot water bottle burst at 18.81 seconds.

In Italy, a new fastest time was set for eating a bowl of pasta (one minute 30 seconds) and in Norway the largest ever gingerbread man was made weighing 651 kg (1,435 lb). In Finland, people from 76 nationalities fitted into a single sauna.

Not everyone was successful, however. In Australia, 228 people were not enough to break the largest bikini parade record. Guinness World Records is considered the authority on world records, and its book has sold over 100 million copies.

Thats-a Big-a Meatball!

The bouncing mega-meatball record has landed in the East Coast.

Chef Matthew Mitnitsky cheers after his meatball weighed in, ...

Matthew Mitnitsky, owner of Nonni’s Italian Eatery in Concord, said that a 222.5-pound meatball was authenticated as the world’s largest after being weighed by state weights and measures officials.

A Guinness Book of World Records official confirmed the big meatball as a record breaker and presented Mitnitsky with a plaque.

The old record of 198.6 pounds was set just over a month ago after Los Angeles-based talk show host Jimmy Kimmel vowed to beat a record set in Mexico. That record — 109 pounds — was set in August.

Mitnitsky said he got involved “to bring the meatball back to the East Coast because that’s where it originated.”

Giant Baby Born In Indonesia

A woman has marked her name in the Indonesian history by giving birth to a 19.2 pound baby boy, by far the country’s largest newborn ever.

The baby, who is still unnamed, was born at the Abdul Manan General Hospital in the town of Asahan in North Sumatra province, said a gynecologist who had taken part in the operation, according to press reports.

Doctors delivered the baby, who measured 62cm, by the Caesarean section, hospital staff said.

They noted that the mother was a 41-year-old woman named Ani, who had three other children. They had all been delivered at home by midwifes.

“This heavy baby made the surgery really tough, especially the process of taking him out of his mum’s womb. His legs were so big,” said the gynecologist, Binsar Sitanggang.

Although doctors had to give oxygen to the boy to help him overcome breathing problems at the time of birth, he is in a healthy condition now, Sitanggang explained.

“He’s got strong appetite, every minute, it’s almost non-stop feeding. This baby boy is extraordinary; the way he’s crying is not like a usual baby. It’s really loud,” he added.

Sitanggang said the boy’s massive size was probably the result of his mother having diabetes.

According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the heaviest baby ever was born to Anna Bates of Canada in 1879. The newborn, which weighed 23.12lb, died 11 hours after birth.
