Naked Woman Shops At Louisiana Wal-Mart

A woman who walked through Wal-Mart naked had been released from a local psychiatric ward hours before the incident, according to the Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, Sheriff’s Office.

Employees called a deputy just before 6 p.m. to report the 24-year-old, who was walking completely unclothed in the Martin Luther King Boulevard store’s food section, said Maj. Malcolm Wolfe, a Sheriff’s Office spokesman. When the deputy asked her why she was naked, she replied, “God wanted me to show the world what I really look like,” according to the deputy’s report.

The deputy handcuffed the woman and covered her with a blanket. She was returned to the psychiatric ward at Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center, where she had been released two hours before, Wolfe said.

The report does not indicate how she arrived at the store or when she undressed. No charges were filed.

Accused Shoplifters Cause Chaos At Walmart

Chattanooga police said a couple they believe tried to steal a cart full of TVs and a computer caused chaos at a Walmart.

According to a news release, Officer Josh Wright was off duty when he saw a man trying to force his way past a greeter with about $2,000 worth of stolen goods Sunday night. Wright displayed his badge, but the man said it was fake and tried to force his way past him. Wright then tackled the suspect and arrested him.

Then the suspect’s wife, feigned a heart attack and said she did not know her husband.

After a witness told Wright the couple had been together in the store, the wife followed the witness into the parking lot and attacked her. The witness stabbed her in the arm with a pocket knife, and the wife had to be treated at a local hospital.

The male suspect was charged with theft over $1,000 and assault on a police officer. Charges against the wife were pending.

Naked Shoppers Shock Garage Staff

A group of naked men have been filmed on cameras after they entered a Devon petrol station and browsed through its pornographic magazine section.

One of the men was recording the incident on his own mobile phone but all left for a nearby minibus after being asked to put their clothes on, the Midweek Herald reports.

Kilmington Services manager Gobu Rasalingham said: “Even though it’s quite funny, it’s unacceptable behaviour because it’s obviously a public place.

“There were no customers in at the time. But if there had been children or women, I would probably have been harsher with them.”

He added of his female cashier: “She was shocked, frozen and unable to do anything – she was almost crying. She said, ‘Go and put clothes on, otherwise I won’t be able to serve you’.

“I don’t think they purposely meant to harm anybody. Maybe they were on a stag party or it was a challenge. I would have taken it in a sporting way as long as they didn’t do any harm.”

Sergeant Pete Trudgeon said: “Each male that paraded himself naked in the shop committed an offence under the Sexual Offences Act 2003.

“We are seeking to identify these males at the earliest opportunity. If they come forward and admit their involvement, they will be dealt with more leniently.”

Filene’s Basement Files For Bankruptcy – Again

Filene’s Basement has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and said it agreed to sell 17 of its 25 stores, including its flagship locations in Boston and Manhattan’s Union Square, to real estate and asset management firm Crown Acquisitions.

The move came after Filene’s sold itself in April to a unit of liquidation firm Buxbaum Group as it struggled with liquidity issues after demand faltered in the face of a U.S. recession.

Filene’s Basement, known for its off-price clothing and annual “running of the brides” wedding gown sales, was put up for sale after weeks of talks with suppliers and lenders in an effort to help it avoid bankruptcy.

As sales dropped off earlier this year the 100-year-old chain announced plans to close 11 of its stores and warned in February that it may need more money beyond its current lending agreements.

Filene’s Basement was started about 100 years ago as a bargain basement for the Filene’s department store in Boston to sell its excess merchandise. Federated Department Stores, now called Macy’s Inc., had bought the chain in 1929.

Filene’s Basement had also filed for bankruptcy once before in 1999, but emerged the following year, when Value City, which later became Retail Ventures, bought its stores.

Surprise Finding In A Wal-Mart Wallet

A customer shopping at a Wal-Mart for a wallet claims he found something that definitely didn’t fit the bill: human teeth.

Police say the man found 10 human teeth Saturday when he unzipped a compartment in the wallet. One tooth had a filling.

The customer turned the wallet and the teeth over to employees at the Falmouth store but left without giving his name.

Police investigating the incident told The Cape Cod Times that the teeth belong to an adult, but since there was no blood or gum tissue on the teeth, they would be unable to perform DNA tests.

A Walmart spokeswoman said the company believes it was an “isolated incident,” but will investigate.

It Might Be The End Of The Line For Fortunoff

The Manhattan location of Fortunoff, a beloved New York retailer is closing, fueling speculation that the Westbury, Long Island based store is headed for bankruptcy – again.

Fortunoff officials announced that the store on Fifth Avenue has closed its doors, just days after its lease expired and the company is reportedly in talks with liquidators.

Additionally, Fortunoff’s parent company, NRDC Equity Partners, is backing off plans to move the jewelry business into its many Lord & Taylor stores, and will now either sell the subsidiary or file for bankruptcy protection.

“What are the two worst sectors in retail right now? Jewelry and home. They’re in both,” said Howard Davidowitz, chairman of Davidowitz & Associates, a retail consulting firm based in New York City.

The iconic retailer has large stores in Paramus, Woodbridge and Wayne, New Jersey as well a flagship store in Westbury, Long Island.  There are also smaller ‘outdoor living’ throughout the New York metropolitan area.

The original store, founded in 1922 Max and Clara Fortunoff, was on Livonia Avenue in Brooklyn.

If closed, Fortunoff will join the ranks of other well known New York  area retailers to call it quits.  Remember Alexanders, A&S, Sterns, Orbachs, Korvettes, Gimbels, Gertz, TSS, B. Altman, Mays, Hahns and Bambergers.

Woodbury Commons Just Keeps on Growing

For anyone who hasn’t gone to Woodbury Commons lately – go.  The outlet center just keeps on growing and the shopping gets better every visit.

Among the real outlets are:  Tommy Bahama, where $110 shirts can be had for $25. Timberland, where wool sweaters run anywhere from $20 to $30 bucks. The sports outlets – Nike, Adidas, Reebok and Puma. They all offer great deals on sneakers and exercise clothes.

Stay away from the Gap outlet which is filled with products made just for the outlet and the Polo outlet, while very large is usually hit or miss and also contains outlet only merchandise. If you’re looking for a crate or a barrel – then don’t bother going to Crate & Barrel – they don’t carry either item.

Parking is always a problem so be sure to get there early or you’re going to be wasting a lot of time looking for a spot.
